About The Position

The head coach is responsible for all aspects of the intercollegiate track and cross-country program. This includes recruiting qualified student-athletes, hiring and supervising assistant coaches, fundraising, coaching the team, overseeing student-athletes' GPA, developing and managing the yearly budget, scheduling contests, ensuring NAIA eligibility, submitting reports, supervising athletes during practice and games, developing yearly plans, evaluating the program, arranging athletic awards, representing the university publicly, conducting community outreach, arranging transportation for away contests, attending clinics for certification and skill updates, assisting with departmental special activities, serving on committees, and performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Requirements

  • Must be familiar with the eligibility requirements for NAIA student athletes and teams.
  • Must be able to develop a yearly budget and control spending.
  • Must be able to arrange safe transportation for all away contests.
  • Must be able to attend clinics and workshops to achieve certification and/or keep skills current.
  • Must be available for varied hours, including weekends and evenings/holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and maintain a quota of qualified student-athletes who meet the requirements for entrance into Texas Wesleyan University.
  • Hire, train, and supervise assistant or student assistant coaches.
  • Responsible for fundraising for appropriate dollar amounts through donations or special projects.
  • Coach his/her team.
  • Oversee the student-athletes GPA requirements each semester.
  • Develop a yearly budget and control spending to ensure the sport is not over budget.
  • Schedule all contests including scrimmages.
  • Be familiar with the eligibility requirements for NAIA student athletes and teams and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Complete accurate monthly reports in a timely manner.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practice and games to ensure that the highest standards of sportsmanship and integrity are maintained.
  • Develop, write and administer a yearly plan.
  • Evaluate his/her intercollegiate athletic program continuously.
  • Arrange for all athletic awards in his/her area.
  • Represent the University in public presentations as needed.
  • Conduct outreach activity(s) in the local community.
  • Arrange safe transportation for all away contests.
  • Attend clinics and workshops to achieve certification and/or keep skills current.
  • Assist in the coordination of the departments special activities.
  • Serve on committees as assigned by Provost or Athletic Director.
