About The Position

Avenues Athletics Department is seeking committed coaches to develop, plan, and implement our growing sports curriculum. We focus on creating programs within each sport discipline where Middle and Upper School coaches collaborate to ensure student athletes receive the necessary skills and support. The role of an Avenues coach involves instructing student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success, while fostering integrity, sportsmanship, self-discipline, goal setting, teamwork, and self-confidence. Head Coaches are responsible for breaking down and teaching fundamental skills, attending all scheduled games and practices, managing practice and game plans, handling administrative duties, and attending athletic and school meetings. Assistant Coaches support the head coach, contribute to practices, gather statistics, and attend games and meetings.

Requirements

Head coaches have 2+ years of cross-country head coach coaching experience
Assistant coaches have 1+ years of coaching or related experience
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work well with student athletes, parents, faculty/staff and the athletics department
Current First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to get training before the season commences
Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport, with special consideration given to those having experience with the desired age category
Enthusiasm, commitment, patience, and a passion for teaching the game are essential to this position
Ability to motivate and provide positive leadership to our student athletes by following our school and athletic mission
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Must be living in New York or surrounding area during the season
