About The Position

Great American Insurance Group's Crop Division is seeking a Business Developer in Missouri. This position is remote and requires up to 75% travel within the territory. The Crop Division has been helping farmers manage risks since 1915 and is authorized by the USDA RMA to write MPCI policies. The team provides expertise in the specific needs of farmers and crops.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Generally, at least 6 months of crop insurance, sales, business development or related experience preferred.
  • Experience working with a CRM program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a productive agency plant/territory.
  • Develop marketing plans for assigned territories, considering agency strengths/weaknesses, competitors, divisional objectives, and market conditions.
  • Prospect, appoint, and manage agency relationships to meet production and profitability goals.
  • Develop and execute agency action plans to achieve individual agency objectives.
  • Review and analyze agents' production and results, implementing corrective measures if necessary, including modifying or canceling appointments.
  • Act as a liaison between the company and producers to resolve issues.
  • Market and provide strategic training on company products and services to existing and prospective agencies.
  • Interpret, explain, and educate agencies on products (features, market placement, marketing/selling techniques), practices, services, and technology solutions.
  • Gather, analyze, and maintain competitive information, making recommendations based on the competitive landscape and industry trends.
  • Perform profit-oriented risk selection/rejection and pricing decisions within designated authority for lower to moderately complex multi-line risks.
  • Monitor aggregate quality and pricing for the book of business in the assigned territory.
  • Monitor persistency, placement, and agent/agency debt.
  • Use independent judgment and initiative to achieve business goals.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service.
  • Bind risks in the field within the level of authority and perform risk appraisals.
  • Take an active role, as needed, for large and/or complex accounts during upstart or critical periods to assist agents in producing business.
  • Build and maintain effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers to attract and retain profitable business.
  • Ensure consistency when communicating with/responding to agents and brokers.
  • Administer and apply insurance laws, regulations, underwriting rules, guidelines, and rating manual rules.
  • Identify opportunities for and potentially spearhead the development of new business and/or programs.
  • Experience working with a CRM program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
