About The Position

Great American Insurance Group's Crop Division is seeking a Business Developer for its Iowa territory. This role involves frequent travel (60%-80%) to visit agents and brokers, contributing to Great American's leadership in the crop insurance market. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Field of Study: Agriculture, Liberal Arts, Business or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 6 months of related experience in sales and/or agriculture.
  • Position requires frequent day and overnight travel (up to 80%).
  • Foundational understanding of agency dynamics, marketing, underwriting, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability and customer-centric mindset.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a productive agency plant/territory.
  • Create marketing plans for assigned territories, considering agency strengths/weaknesses, competitors, divisional objectives, and market conditions.
  • Prospect, appoint, and manage agency relationships to meet production and profitability goals.
  • Develop and execute agency action plans.
  • Review and analyze agents' production and results, implementing corrective measures if necessary.
  • Serve as a liaison between the company and producers to resolve issues.
  • Market and provide training on company products and services to agencies.
  • Educate agencies on product features, market placement, sales techniques, and technology solutions.
  • Gather, analyze, and maintain competitive information and make recommendations.
  • Make profit-oriented risk selection/rejection and pricing decisions for lower to moderately complex multi-line risks within designated authority.
  • Monitor the quality, pricing, persistency, placement, and agent/agency debt for the book of business in the assigned territory.
  • Use independent judgment and initiative to achieve business goals.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service.
  • Bind risks in the field within the level of authority and perform risk appraisals.
  • Assist agents in producing business for large/complex accounts during critical periods.
  • Build and maintain effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers.
  • Ensure consistent communication with agents and brokers.
  • Administer insurance laws, regulations, underwriting rules, and rating manual rules.
  • Identify opportunities for and potentially lead the development of new business and programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
