About The Position

UPMC Shadyside is seeking Casual Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to join their Anesthesiology Department. This is an opportunity to work in a cutting-edge, 520-bed tertiary care facility with Magnet Status, serving as an academic teaching hospital. The department manages over 19,000 surgical cases annually across various specialties, including Outpatient (ASC), Surgical Oncology, Plastics, Orthopedics, Cardiac/Hybrid (TAVR), Neurosurgery, Complex Urology, ENT, General Surgery, Robotic, and Thoracic. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia education program required.
  • Knowledgeable regarding controlled substance policies in accordance with Federal and State laws required.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required.
  • Board Certified, Recertified or eligible by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists required.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • AHA-approved ACLS/PALS certifications as required by institution of employ upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Responsibilities

  • Administer anesthesia and related care, including pre-anesthetic preparation, induction, maintenance, emergence, post-anesthesia care, and peri-anesthesia support.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for controlled substances according to department and hospital policy and State and federal guidelines.
  • Assist with the teaching and evaluation of newly hired CRNAs, GRNAs, and SRNAs.
  • Perform according to established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Review appropriate documentation for informed consent and identify appropriate surgical site with operating room staff and surgeon in accordance with departmental and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Participate in the Quality Improvement (QI) process through documentation, incident reporting, evaluation, education, and implementation.
