About The Position

Consistent with Texas licensure, this position practices under MD supervision and provides CRNA support to meet the patient care needs of the Department of Anesthesiology. The CRNA provides supervised patient care, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative anesthesiology services. The role requires maintaining current knowledge of new drugs and techniques and providing care that integrates patients’ and families’ psychosocial and physical needs. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

Master’s degree or higher from a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA).
Valid Texas RN License.
Valid Texas CRNA License.
National Certification Examination required by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
Practice consistent with Texas licensure and under MD supervision.

Responsibilities

Conduct pre-anesthesia evaluations, including assessing medical history and its potential effect on the patient’s response to anesthesia.
Obtain informed consent for anesthesia.
Administer anesthetic-related drugs and controlled substances.
Select and insert invasive and noninvasive monitoring modalities.
Perform point-of-care testing.
Plan and initiate anesthetic techniques, including general, regional, local, and sedation.
Respond to emergencies using airway management and other techniques.
Facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia.
Maintain detailed anesthetic records in the EMR system and other documentation as indicated.
Provide backup call services as needed.
Supervise student nurse anesthetists.
Maintain current knowledge of new drugs and techniques.
Use assessment, diagnosis, management, and evaluation processes to provide care integrating the psychosocial and physical needs of patients and families.
Perform additional duties as needed.
