About The Position

Washington University School of Medicine is expanding its anesthesia team and seeks motivated, collaborative, growth-oriented Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to serve diverse patient populations across the St. Louis region. CRNAs primarily work in operating rooms and also participate in gastrointestinal and other non-operating-room anesthesia cases. Depending on interest and practice needs, opportunities may include cardiac, obstetric, and pediatric anesthesia. Patient populations include adults, obstetric patients, and children. CRNAs work within an Anesthesia Care Team alongside attending anesthesiologists, resident anesthesiologists, and fellow CRNAs. The position offers a typical 40-hour workweek with Monday-through-Friday schedules; some positions include weekday and/or weekend call, depending on division and location. Services are provided at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, Progress West Hospital, St. Louis Children's Hospital, and five outpatient surgery centers across St. Louis County. The CRNA reviews assigned cases and patient information, participates in anesthetic planning with an anesthesiologist, prepares supplies and equipment, administers anesthesia, monitors patients, documents care, and assists with recovery and emergency care. The role is suited to experienced CRNAs and new graduates who are motivated to learn and develop in a supportive academic and mentorship-focused environment. The work is performed in patient-care settings and a normal office environment, with exposure to blood-borne pathogens. The position may involve alternative schedules and on-call duty, and requires protective devices. Work typically involves standing or walking and bending, crouching, or stooping, with occasional lifting of 25 pounds or less. Office and clinical/diagnostic equipment are used.
