About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly. This involves supporting all AWS data centers and the associated servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. The role is part of a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. The position focuses on providing full life-cycle support to AWS Data Centers, from design to site improvement and maintenance. The engineer will serve as the primary technical resource for their region, troubleshooting, conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and creating Corrective Action (CA) documentation for failures. They will also support operational issues, review operating procedures, and provide event support. A key aspect of the role involves owning the conceptual design for data center upgrades to enhance capacity, availability, efficiency, and sustainability. The engineer will interface with various internal teams, including data center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health and safety, to promote standards and ensure consistency and reliability. Developing innovative solutions for AWS data centers, managing concurrent projects across multiple regions, and leading engineering audits with on-site visits are also core responsibilities. Additionally, the role includes acting as a resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or experience working in electrical engineering field
  • 5+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • Possess Strong Engineering Judgement and are able to provide recommendations despite uncertainty/ambiguity.
  • Possess excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards Organized and have the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines and budget
  • Possess leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Are detail and data oriented
  • Have experience solving problems with engineered solutions.
  • Have experience managing engineering projects and consultants.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of electrical systems in critical Data Center operations that include but are not limited to utility substation feeds, transformers, switchgear, VFI Class UPS, DRUPS, PDUs, ATS, STS, SLA/VRLA batteries and associated systems, diesel/gas turbine generators and related fuel systems, Surge Suppression, Active Harmonic Filtering, battery monitoring systems, branch circuit monitoring systems or SCADA systems
  • Experience working in a data center or mission critical facility (example: hospital, military facility, public safety facility, etc.), or experience in construction
  • Experience as a resident engineer or hands-on design consultant
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
  • Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities, or experience in any Bigdata architecture and experience with programming/scripting (Batch, VB, PowerShell, Java, C#, Chef, Perl, Ruby and/or PHP)

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support.
  • Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
  • Interface with internal data center operations team, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
  • Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers.
  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate and lead engineering audits including on-site visits within Amazon’s data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
  • Act as resident engineer during new construction projects. Support construction, commissioning, and turnover.
