About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly. This involves supporting all AWS data centers and the associated servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. The team tackles complex challenges within a supply chain with thousands of variables and seeks talented individuals to contribute. You will join a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers, collaborating across AWS to uphold high standards of safety and security while delivering immense capacity at the lowest cost. As an Amazon Critical Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide comprehensive life-cycle support for AWS Data Centers, from initial design through site improvements and maintenance. You will serve as the primary engineering resource for your region, offering technical guidance and engaging with various teams to: * Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures. * Provide direct support for operational issues through ad-hoc training, reviews of complex operating procedures for critical equipment, and event support. * Lead the conceptual design for upgrades to existing data centers and develop solutions to enhance capacity, availability, efficiency, and sustainability. * Liaise with internal teams such as data center operations, data center design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health and safety to promote standards that ensure consistency and reliability. * Develop innovative solutions for AWS data centers. * Manage concurrent projects, potentially across multiple geographical regions. * Initiate and lead engineering audits, including on-site visits to Amazon data centers, producing reports with risk assessments and recommended mitigations/remediations. * Act as the resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing
  • NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning specific education courses
  • Possess Strong Engineering Judgement and are able to provide recommendations despite uncertainty/ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support.
  • Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
  • Interface with internal data center operations team, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
  • Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers.
  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate and lead engineering audits including on-site visits within Amazon’s data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
