The Critical Engineering Technician will be part of the Operations team, reporting to the Critical Facilities Manager. This role performs maintenance on critical facility equipment and plays a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of a hyperscale, multi-building data center campus. The position is responsible for ensuring the uptime, reliability, and performance of critical facility systems through routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and rapid response to alarms or incidents involving power, cooling, and networking equipment. The technician works across multiple areas, demanding precision and strict adherence to operational protocols. This role coordinates with internal teams (operations, engineering, security) and external vendors, requiring adaptability and the ability to work in a fast-paced, 24/7 mission-critical environment. Requirements

  • 2+ years’ experience in an industry that includes operations & maintenance
  • Familiarity with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Method of Procedures (MOPs), and their application to work orders
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, controls, and fire and life safety systems
  • Proficient with computer systems including documents, spreadsheets, and email

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years’ experience in a critical operations environment, preferably in the data center industry
  • Experience scheduling and planning maintenance for large-scale, complex systems in an operations environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform all standard and non-standard activities in accordance with Stream Data Centers’ operating procedures or maintenance work instructions.
  • Perform rounds inspecting mechanical, electrical, and fire/life safety systems (MEP/FLS) throughout the building and equipment yards.
  • Monitor Building Management System (BMS) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) dashboards for alarms and anomalies.
  • Perform BMS operations and effectively analyze data to ensure proper functions of all critical systems.
  • Execute preventative and corrective maintenance tasks on critical infrastructure including UPS, FCUs, CRAH/CRACs, chillers, generators, and electrical switchgear.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, network, and project teams to coordinate site-wide activities.
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for all equipment related activity support site management to resolve site issues based on priorities.
  • Participate in technical training and certification programs to maintain up-to-date knowledge of equipment and best practices.
  • Participate in team meetings, shift handovers, and post-mortem reviews to share knowledge and support cross-functional collaboration.
  • Escort vendors and contractors during maintenance or installation activities, ensuring badge compliance and activity logging.
  • Comply with Stream Data Centers departmental policies, including all EHS policies and procedures.
