About The Position

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides pre-hospital basic life support care from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation (TraumaSoft/Epic) in a timely manner. Practices within his/her scope of practice as defined by the State of Illinois/Wisconsin and Mercyhealth. Maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences. Communicates educational needs to the program leadership. Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures. Performs basic skills and procedures as approved by Mercyhealth. Maintains documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures. Attends educational programs as required by the Medical Director. Participates regularly in departmental activities, simulation, projects and committees (to include research and publishing opportunities). Maintains awareness of current issues related to pre-hospital care through participation in professional activities, i.e., national, state legislative--elected or appointed. Clearly communicates program goals and objectives. Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used by Mercyhealth. Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to insure repair of equipment as directed. Maintains adequate supplies within program/ambulances to deliver patient care. Assist with the routine maintenance of the ambulance, equipment and facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and professional appearance to insure rapid response to all transport requests. Functions as a CCTT ground team member by attending pre-call briefings and post-call debriefings. Assists in pre-call, i.e., radio, navigational, and weather observation activities. Complies with safety standards to assure safety of self, medical personnel, patient, and equipment. Conducts safety briefings as needed. Participates regularly in Mercyhealth meetings, activities, projects and committees (to include research and publishing opportunities). Participates in patient and referring institution follow-up and planned outreach marketing and education activities. Maintains a clean work and patient environment. Processes orders in an accurate and timely manner. Answers the telephone and call lights appropriately provides information or relays messages to patients and staff. Maintains and orders supplies- Including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies within departments/ambulances. Performs venipuncture, IV access, 12-lead acquisition, blood glucose analysis, and CPR/Lucas as ordered/directed within Emergency Department. Assists with splinting applications by gathering needed supplies. Transports non-monitored patients to in-patient units. Floats to outlying Mercyhealth facilities (Janesville, Rockford, Walworth, Harvard) based on identified needs/staffing models. Directs visitors to patients' rooms. Maintains medical records of current patients. Processes patient charges and orders supplies as needed. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Two (2) years’ experience in a busy 911 system and ALS experience preferred. Previous Critical Care transport experience preferred.

Requirements

  • National Registry Certificate Required
  • EMT License in State of Practice is required
  • Dual State of Illinois and Wisconsin licensure required within 90 days
  • BLS/CPR required within 90 days
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and Hazmat within 90 days
  • EVOC Driving course completion within (3) months of hire
  • Strong organizational skills, effective verbal communication, written communication, quality customer service, grammar/spelling, read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, basic PC Skills
  • Manage stress appropriately, makes decisions under pressure, manage anger/fear/hostility/violence of others appropriately, handles multiple priorities, works independently Preform repetitive task/motions, distinguish colors, hear alarms/telephones/tape recorder normal speaking voice, have good manual dexterity, have good eye-hand foot coordination, ability to see
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a busy 911 system and ALS experience preferred
