About The Position

Provides for safety aspects of patient care, including assisting with patient restraints, using correct transfer techniques, following falls precautions, and responding appropriately to emergency situations. Provides personal care such as bathing, mouth care, evening care, and incontinence care under the direction of the RN. Applies basic dressings, slings, splints, antiembolism, and sequential pressure stockings under the direction of the RN. Collects specimens like stool, urine, and sputum in a timely manner. Empties and cleans ostomy and other device bags efficiently. Records accurate intake and output per unit standards. Provides for patient nutrition, including feeding, monitoring tube feedings, delivering nourishment, and counting calories accurately. Makes pertinent observations about patients, documents them accurately and timely in patient records, and reports findings to the RN. Assists with post-mortem care and CPR under the direction/supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician. Performs Phlebotomy accurately and stocks Phlebotomy and IV trays for the unit. Performs accurate glucometer testing and EKG's as determined by the unit and following competency attainment. Performs accurate vital signs and pulse oximetry. Stocks supplies as required by the designated unit. Maintains a well-cleaned, organized environment. Performs other duties as assigned, demonstrating willingness to adapt to changing department needs. Maintains patient and medication refrigerator logs. Checks and signs the Unit Code Cart/Carts for operational performance each shift. Notifies clinical equipment and charge nurse of any malfunctioning defibrillator in a timely manner.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency.
One year prior experience as an EMT, military medic, PCA in an acute care or equivalent skill in long-term care setting, completion of a medical assistant program, or successful completion of two clinical semesters of an accredited nursing school.
AHA BLS.
Non-Licensed must obtain before end of orientation period.
Proficient in English, verbal and written communication.

Nice To Haves

Certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred.
In lieu of CNA certification, successful completion of the Capital Health UAP Training program within 90 days of employment.
