About The Position

The Critical Care Technician - PRN conducts drug utilization review studies, and consults with medical practitioners on prescription orders, patient reactions, and errors. Additionally, this employee works closely with patients and healthcare providers to provide information and guidance about the effects of prescription drugs and help plan effective drug therapy programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required
  • EMT/PMD certification
  • BLS-CPR, ACLS, PALS certification
  • Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and cares for all equipment, to include cleaning of intravenous pumps, poles, glucometer, and ultrasound machine with hospital approved disinfectant, before and after use.
  • Maintains patient areas with adequate supplies.
  • Completes equipment log, reports broken equipment, and enters work orders for repair.
  • Ensures that medication refrigerator is clean, maintains refrigerator logs, and reports deviations in temperature range to supervisor.
  • Collects vital signs and communicates abnormalities to appropriate senior staff member(s).
  • Accompanies patients to the exam room for procedures.
  • Prepares clinic rooms for procedures to assure all equipment and supplies are present.
  • Assists with simple wound care and practices universal precautions per policy.
  • Assists in lifting, positioning, turning, and ambulating patients.
  • Collects specimen of stool, urine, and sputum, and transports to laboratory.
  • Reports any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patients to the assigned nurse.
  • Transports patients to and from various areas as indicated.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
