About The Position

Children's Mercy is seeking a Critical Care Staff Nurse for the Emergency Department. This role involves providing the highest level of care to sick and injured children and adolescents in the Kansas City region. The hospital has two Pediatric Emergency Departments, one in downtown Kansas City and one in Overland Park, Kan. The Adele Hall Campus location is a verified Level I Trauma Center and includes the Emergency Mental Health Crisis Center. The Children's Mercy Kansas location also provides essential emergency services. Patients receive skilled care from highly trained professionals who are involved in scholarly research, advocacy, and educational endeavors. The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program is highly respected. Critical care registered nurses provide illness management and health promotion for patients and families requiring intensive care, utilizing the nursing process and scientific principles to deliver safe, high-quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate nursing care. They also provide patient and family education, advocate for patient needs, and coordinate care with nonprofessional personnel. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree ADN Required.
  • Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role.
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas, RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri, RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO required upon hire
  • Employees must obtain Licensed RN - Kansas or equivalent within 90 days
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred for all nurses hired after September 1, 2013. Nurses hired after this date without a BSN, must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date.
  • Specialty Nursing Certification encouraged for all eligible nurses Preferred
