About The Position

The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit is seeking a permanent full-time Critical Care Technician with Day and Night availability. This role involves assisting patients with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, and supporting nursing staff. The Neuroscience ICU (Lunder 6) is a 22-bed unit caring for critically ill patients with neurological diagnoses such as neurotrauma, status epilepticus, stroke, and spinal cord injury. Ideal candidates will have 1 year of clinical experience and weekday/weekend availability.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
Basic Life Support [BLS]
Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification]
Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [National Certification]
Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong patient/customer service skills.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Nice To Haves

Ideal applicants with (1) year clinical experience and both weekday and weekend availability will be highly considered for this role.

Responsibilities

Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy.
Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively.
Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
