About The Position

The Critical Care Step Down Registered Nurse provides hands-on nursing care in a diverse care setting at New Orleans East Hospital. The RN prioritizes, coordinates, and delegates patient care, collaborates with multidisciplinary team members, and advocates for a safe environment. The role includes monitoring patients and communicating significant events, changes in condition, and questions or concerns with patients, families, and the care team. The nurse also prevents and treats wounds, follows infection-control and environment-of-care requirements, supports continuity and efficiency of care, and initiates patient and family education. Nurses are expected to assist teammates and consult a supervisor when assignments or tasks cannot be completed promptly, effectively, or safely. This is a full-time night-shift position and is eligible for a sign-on bonus, with the amount based on experience.

Requirements

Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana, as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
Current American Heart Association BLS certification.

Responsibilities

Prioritize, coordinate, and delegate patient care touchpoints.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure appropriate direct patient care.
Maintain and advocate a safe environment.
Monitor patients and engage patients, families, and appropriate care team members regarding significant events, changes in patient condition, and questions or concerns.
Prevent and treat wounds.
Monitor and execute Joint Commission infection-control and environment-of-care requirements.
Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional patient experience.
Consult with a supervisor when unable to complete assignments or perform tasks promptly, effectively, or safely.
Initiate patient and family education using appropriate resources and continuum-of-care services.
Assist teammates without being asked.
