About The Position

The Critical Care Paramedic is responsible for personal and team safety, patient assessment and emergency care, safe patient lifting and movement, transport and transfer, recordkeeping, data collection, and patient advocacy. The role requires leadership, mentoring Paramedics and EMTs through teaching and feedback, and providing exceptional care to high-acuity patients. The paramedic must communicate effectively with physicians and other agencies and departments. The position is PRN, with varying shifts.

Requirements

Current Alabama license as a Critical Care Paramedic.
FPC/CCP-C certification.
ACLS, PALS, BLS, and BTLS/PHTLS credentials.
Three years of experience as a licensed Paramedic.
One year as a primary care provider in the pre-hospital environment.
Ability to work overtime as required, adapt to scheduling needs, and be available on-call when required.
Knowledge of, or ability to gain, the skills necessary to provide care under critical care protocols and guidelines established by the medical director and/or ADPH.
Exceptional patient assessment and airway management skills and the ability to care for high-acuity patients.
Ability to manage ventilators, IV pumps, and simultaneous administration of multiple medications and blood products.
Ability to communicate effectively with physicians and other agencies and departments.

Responsibilities

Perform all duties outlined in the Paramedic job description.
Provide exceptional patient assessment and airway management.
Provide care for high-acuity patients.
Manage ventilators and various IV pumps.
Manage the simultaneous administration of multiple medications and blood products.
Apply knowledge of medications used in emergency and critical care.
Maintain personal and others’ safety, assess and treat patients, and safely lift, move, transport, and transfer patients.
Complete recordkeeping and data collection and advocate for patients.
Demonstrate leadership and mentor Paramedics and EMTs through teaching and feedback.
Communicate effectively with physicians and other agencies and departments.
Remain approved by the EMS Medical Director through continued evaluation.
Work overtime as required, adjust availability to meet department and hospital staffing needs, and be available on-call when required.
Provide care under critical care protocols and guidelines established by the medical director and/or ADPH, including use of specialized equipment and advanced medications, intubation, IV and intraosseous access, advanced cardiac monitoring, complex ventilator management, dynamic patient assessment, radiology interpretation, rapid decision-making, and planning.
