About The Position

This is a Locum Tenens position for a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner in Suffolk, Virginia. The role is inpatient and clinical only, covering shifts from August 13, 2026, ongoing. The schedule involves five 13-hour shifts per week, typically Friday through Tuesday, from 7 PM to 8 AM. This coverage is needed while new providers are being credentialed. The Nurse Practitioner will manage adult patients in a critical care setting, with an average daily volume of 13 patients (ranging from 1-20). Responsibilities include vent management with RT assistance, monitoring and assisting with decompensating patients overnight, admitting new critical care patients from various sources, performing procedures such as central lines, arterial lines, and dialysis catheters, and updating families on patient status and goals of care during overnight shifts.

Requirements

• Board Certified NP
• Active Virginia License
• Active DEA
• BLS, ACLS certifications
• Critical care experience required
• Must be available to cover the posted dates and ongoing monthly shifts
• Clean background for temporary privileges

Responsibilities

• Vent management with assistance of RTs
• Monitoring of admitting critical care patients / availability to assist with decompensating patients overnight
• Admitting new critical care patients from the ED, hospital floor, and several surrounding hospitals
• Procedures such as central lines, arterial lines, and dialysis catheters
• Updating family / goals of care when patients decompensate overnight
