About The Position

WakeMed is seeking an experienced Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for its Level I Trauma Center. The NP or PA will operate under the general supervision of their Medical Director, physician partners, and APP Manager within WakeMed Physician Practices, providing competent medical care to patients. This role encompasses both inpatient and outpatient care, as defined by clinical job expectations. The position involves a wide range of clinical duties and collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to optimize patient care. Additionally, the PA/NP will serve as an educator for PA/NP/CNM students from healthcare education programs. The scope of practice must align with the policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines of the North Carolina Medical Board or North Carolina Board of Nursing, as well as federal and state agencies and WakeMed's internal policies. Specific certifications, such as Advanced Life Support, may be required depending on the clinical area of practice and are subject to annual review. The successful candidate will support WakeMed's mission, values, and management.

Requirements

  • 1 Year Critical Care Clinical Experience as Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
  • Registered Nurse And Advanced Practice Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Required or Physician Assistant
  • Bachelor's Degree Physician Assistant or Master's Degree Physician Assistant Required or Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Acute Care Nursing Required
  • Additional certifications such as Advanced Life Support may be required based on clinical area of practice

Responsibilities

  • Deliver competent medical care to patients
  • Complete referrals
  • Complete consults
  • Conduct daily patient rounds
  • Complete daily notes
  • Prepare discharge summaries
  • Perform procedures
  • Complete clinic notes
  • Provide pre and post procedure care
  • Prescribe medication
  • Conduct patient care follow-ups
  • Work closely with other healthcare providers in a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to maximize patient care
  • Function as an educator for PA/NP/CNM students from healthcare education programs
  • Maintain the scope of practice consistent with the policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines governed by the North Carolina Medical Board or North Carolina Board of Nursing and any other federal or state regulatory agencies as well as the policies and procedures of WakeMed
