This is a Critical Care Float Pool position. The nurse will be expected to float to any unit within the hospital, including the Emergency Department (for holds), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). The role also requires floating to Medical-Surgical (MS) units and taking assignments that may include 6-7 patients. The Critical Care Float Pool has 42 beds. Common patient diagnoses include general/medical conditions such as strokes, sepsis, altered mental status, neuro interventions (TCAR), respiratory failure, CHF, and post-STEMI. For the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CTICU), diagnoses include cardiovascular surgery, cardiogenic shock, and AAA. For Surgical/Trauma units, diagnoses include trauma and major post-operative surgical cases. Specialty equipment used includes IABP, CRRT, ventriculostomy, ICP monitoring, and TTM.
