About The Position

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Critical Care Education Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating education services for the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and Cardiac Cath Lab. This role supports onboarding, competency validation, ongoing clinical education, regulatory readiness, quality improvement, and staff development for cardiovascular critical care and procedural areas. The coordinator collaborates with nursing leadership, preceptors, physicians, advanced practice providers, clinical informatics, and education specialists to promote safe, evidence-informed, standardized practice. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

Current Licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Nurse required.
High School Diploma/GED in lieu of degree required.
BLS certification required.
ACLS required or obtained within organizational timeframe.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or relevant field preferred or currently pursuing.
Clinical education experience preferred.
Minimum 3 years of critical care CVICU, cath lab, or related critical/procedural nursing experience preferred.
Additional specialty certification such as CCRN, CSC, CMC, RCIS, or CVRN preferred when applicable to role and scope.
Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide timely coaching and critical feedback.
Maintains working knowledge of cardiovascular critical care and cath lab workflows, patient safety standards, regulatory requirements, evidence-informed nursing practice, and electronic documentation expectations.
Demonstrates computer literacy, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and standard office equipment.

Responsibilities

Assesses, develops, coordinates, and evaluates education for CVICU and Cath Lab staff related to new equipment, new procedures, regulatory requirements, quality outcomes, and identified educational needs.
Assists in onboarding and orientation for new employees, transfers, and staff cross-training into CVICU and Cath Lab roles in collaboration with nursing leadership, clinical nurse managers, preceptors, and education specialists.
Validates staff competency for cardiovascular critical care and procedural practice, including unit-specific skills, annual competencies, regulatory requirements, and specialty workflows.
Supports education and competency related to hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive medication titration, mechanical circulatory support, post-procedure recovery, moderate sedation expectations as applicable, sheath management, cath lab emergency response, and other CVICU/Cath Lab specialty practices within organizational policy and scope.
Assists with development, review, and revision of policies, procedures, protocols, order sets, and standard work for CVICU and Cath Lab clinical practice.
Communicates orientee progress and learning needs to the Shift Coordinators, Associate Nurse Managers, and Clinical Managers and assists with individualized orientation plans, remediation plans, and ongoing competency development.
Participates in chart audits, tracers, and quality reviews to assess compliance with regulatory standards, documentation requirements, and staff competency; develops education plans to close identified gaps.
Works collaboratively with preceptors, directors, clinical managers, associate nurse managers, shift coordinators, physicians, advanced practice providers, and education specialists to ensure consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness of the educational system, including recordkeeping, skills assessment, course development, and competency tracking.
Teaches department-specific courses, specialty education, simulation activities, skills labs, and/or AHA courses within area of expertise, as needed.
Serves as a clinical expert and resource for cardiovascular critical care and cath lab nursing practice.
Maintains compliance in RQI.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
