About The Position

The Ada S. McKinley Behavioral Health & Clinical Services (BHCS) Program is seeking a Mental Health Professional (MHP) Crisis Stabilization Clinician to join our Crisis Stabilization Program. This role involves delivering direct support, intervention, and care coordination services to individuals experiencing acute mental health or behavioral crises. The MHP works under the guidance of a QMHP or Team Lead to provide timely, compassionate, and trauma-informed services that focus on de-escalation, stabilization, and continuity of care. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to engage clients, manage crisis situations, and support recovery-oriented treatment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field (required).
  • At least one year of experience in mental health, crisis intervention, or behavioral health services is preferred.
  • Background check and clearance required.
  • Clearance from the State of Illinois for child abuse/neglect history, along with a personal background check, fingerprinting, and criminal clearance.
  • Basic knowledge of mental health symptoms, diagnoses, and treatment approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for client engagement.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure during crisis events.
  • Trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approach to service delivery.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic electronic health record systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with clients who have co-occurring mental health or substance use disorders is a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct client support during crisis situations, including de-escalation and risk mitigation.
  • Assist with crisis assessments, intake evaluations, and safety planning under the supervision of a QMHP.
  • Support clients through group and individual crisis interventions to stabilize immediate symptoms.
  • Coordinate care with clinical team members, case managers, and external service providers.
  • Engage clients in psychoeducation, skill-building, and recovery-focused activities.
  • Monitor client progress and participate in ongoing treatment planning and updates.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services provided in the electronic health record system.
  • Assist with client follow-ups, warm handoffs, and referrals to appropriate outpatient or community resources.
  • Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, and team debriefings.
  • Respond effectively to high-stress or emergent situations requiring quick thinking and a calm demeanor.
  • May be required to travel between program sites or community locations to provide client support.
