Provides mental health support to patients, typically based upon their own experiences. This unique position requires that a Peer Support Specialist self-identify as a present or former primary consumer of mental health services. The role involves providing direct supportive services, assisting clients in generating proactive solutions to barriers regarding their recovery, completing documentation, participating in care coordination, developing crisis prevention plans and treatment goals, and maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders.
