About The Position

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking a qualified professional to serve as the Crisis Now Lead. This position provides leadership, coordination, and administrative supervision for the Crisis Now Team within the Division of Crisis Services and works closely with division leadership to align team priorities with the strategic direction of the division. This position is responsible for overseeing a team of staff who support and oversee component areas of the Crisis Now model; serves as the unifying presence across these component areas, supporting staff in meeting performance expectations; and provides guidance, removes barriers, and ensures coordination and coherence across the Crisis Now framework components. The position operates with significant independence, makes strategic recommendations to Division leadership, and is responsible for the interpretation and application of relevant statutes, regulations, and operational standards across assigned program areas.

Requirements

Knowledge of the Crisis Now framework and the components of the Virginia behavioral health crisis continuum of care, including crisis call centers, mobile crisis response, crisis stabilization units, and crisis receiving centers.
Knowledge of Virginia's civil commitment processes and their intersection with the behavioral health crisis system, including TDO and ECO processes and the role of law enforcement and PSAP partners.
Knowledge of Virginia's crisis system infrastructure, including Community Service Boards, regional HUBs, and the Marcus Alert framework.
Supervisory experience.
Ability to supervise and develop staff effectively, including conducting performance evaluations, managing workload, and supporting professional growth.
Ability to build and sustain a cohesive team culture that supports both individual expertise and collaborative function.
Ability to identify cross-cutting issues across a multi-function team and facilitate resolution or escalation as appropriate.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Skill in facilitating meetings and work sessions with structured agendas and documented outcomes.
Ability to manage competing priorities and hold multiple threads simultaneously in a complex, fast-moving environment.
Knowledge of statutes, regulations, policies, and standards applicable to behavioral health and crisis services in Virginia.
Experience with coordination, data awareness, Microsoft Office Suite, and use of digital tools for reporting and communication purposes.

Nice To Haves

Experience in behavioral health crisis services.
Experience providing or overseeing crisis services within the Virginia behavioral health system.
Knowledge of the Crisis Now framework or equivalent national best practice models for crisis services.
