About The Position

William Osler Health System is seeking a Crisis Intervention Worker to provide immediate assessment and intervention for individuals presenting to the Emergency Department in crisis due to symptoms associated with serious psychiatric, addiction, or psycho-social problems. This role involves working collaboratively with hospital colleagues in a fast-paced environment within a 24-hour service that runs seven days a week. Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Social Work, Nursing or Counseling/Psychology with a combination of relevant experience in mental health and addictions
  • Registration with the appropriate professional college
  • Minimum of three years recent, related experience in crisis intervention in the fields of mental health and addictions
  • Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of best practice guidelines in crisis intervention and crisis theory
  • Excellent assessment and counseling skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and advocate for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness
  • Proficiency in computer skills mandatory
  • Excellent attendance record

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate assessment and intervention for individuals who present to the Emergency Department in crisis due to symptoms associated with a serious and severe psychiatric problem, addiction and/or psycho-social problem(s)

  • Develop care plans for those in crisis
  • Develop and foster community linkages and resources
  • Provide quality customer service in dealing with the public (patients and families) as well as various clinical professionals
  • Work effectively within an interdisciplinary team
