About The Position

UPMC Western Behavioral Health at Safe Harbor is seeking a passionate and driven Crisis Clinician I to join their Crisis Intervention team. This role provides 24/7 support through phone services, mobile response, and walk-in assessments. The clinician will deliver compassionate, client-centered care to individuals of all ages experiencing self-identified crises. Responsibilities include crisis counseling, de-escalation, support via crisis and 988 lines, clinical assessments, service coordination, referrals, and community-based mobile response. The position operates within a supportive shift structure with ongoing guidance from supervisors. The team fosters a collaborative and supportive environment with strong leadership and team-building efforts. This is a swing shift position (11am-9pm) on a six-week rotation, requiring some weekends and holidays. Business casual dress code is required, and on-site parking is provided. While challenging, crisis work is rewarding, and the team promotes staff wellness and a positive work culture. A sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 is offered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, Counseling or Social Work WITH one year of mental health direct care experience OR master's degree in psychology, Counseling or Social Work required.
  • Other fields of study may be considered with coursework of at least 12 credits in human services and/or relevant mental health experience.
  • Work history that includes phone triage, as well as an in-depth knowledge and proven skill at doing psychiatric assessments.
  • Experience in mental health crisis intervention, case management, or in home therapy preferred.
  • Excellent, recovery-oriented interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and to assume on call responsibilities.
  • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients.
  • Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another.
  • ATTENTION: BACHELORS TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE ATTACHED FOR CONSIDERATION.
  • Act 31 or Act 126 must be obtained within 90 days of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis services in a community and/or office setting, including assessments, counseling and crisis planning.
  • Manage crisis situations independently using positive approaches and motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Complete consumer and family crisis assessments (face-to-face and by phone) and provide follow-up via phone or mobile visits.
  • Support consumers by promotion stability, coordinating referrals, and negotiating appropriate services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, complete required paperwork, and navigate insurance processes and authorizations.
