About The Position

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is actively recruiting for a Criminal Records Specialist I/II position. This role provides vital support to the Sheriff’s Office by using a wide variety of specialized software systems that provide information supporting law enforcement officers, criminal court operations, and other jurisdictions. Responsibilities include receiving instruction on how to create and extract law enforcement data and providing administrative customer service to members of the public, attorneys, or insurance companies related to bail, fees, towed vehicles, or expunction of records. This position operates within a 24-hour per day, 7-day per week facility and requires willingness to work day, swing, and graveyard shifts on any day of the week, including holidays and weekends.

Requirements

  • Modern office practices and methods.
  • Techniques and methods of business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Techniques and methods of business letter writing and report preparation.
  • Operational characteristics and applications of data processing equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance of office equipment and machinery.
  • Methods of the operation of desktop computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent.
  • Principles and procedures of financial recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Principles of basic mathematics such as addition, subtraction, division, and computing percentages.
  • Proficiently perform general office tasks and operate typical office software such as word processing and Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent.
  • Maintain high accuracy and detail in recordkeeping tasks.
  • Learn and apply pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Learn to operate electronic controls, telecommunications equipment, computers, and other office equipment.
  • Develop competency with law enforcement data systems and other specialized software typical to the job assignment.
  • Pass a post-offer drug screen.
  • Pass a thorough background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of Microsoft Office Specialist certifications (MOS) is preferred for Criminal Records Specialist I.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vital support to the Sheriff’s Office using specialized software systems.
  • Create and extract law enforcement data.
  • Provide administrative customer service to the public, attorneys, or insurance companies regarding bail, fees, towed vehicles, or expunction of records.
  • Work any shift and any day of the week, including holidays and weekends.
  • Remain calm and focused under time pressure or while assisting customers under stress or in urgent situations.
  • Set priorities and adapt them as needed to complete all assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
