About The Position

The Criminal Justice Teacher (CTE Law and Justice) is responsible for demonstrating leadership, establishing a respectful environment for a diverse student population, possessing strong content knowledge, facilitating student learning, and reflecting on their teaching practice. This role involves building leadership among staff and administration to foster shared ownership of the school's vision. The teacher will make content engaging and relevant by aligning instruction with common core and essential standards, incorporating 21st-century content such as global awareness, financial literacy, civic literacy, and health awareness. Instruction will be revised to include critical thinking, problem-solving, and ICT literacy, utilizing various instructional methods and technology integration. Assessment of student learning and development of teamwork and leadership qualities will be facilitated through diverse methods. Collaboration with families and adults in students' lives, adaptation of teaching for students with special needs, and promotion of fairness are key aspects of the role. The teacher must demonstrate ethical principles including honesty, integrity, fair treatment, and respect for others, adhering to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct for NC Educators. Additionally, the teacher will serve as a team player and role model, demonstrating a commitment to continuous quality improvement and organizational core values.

Requirements

  • A four-year degree from an accredited institution with NC certification in assigned area of teaching or combination of relevant work experience and education.
  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
  • Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

  • Teach existing core content that is revised to include skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and information and communications technology (ICT) literacy.
  • Facilitate instruction using a variety of instructional methods that are appropriate for their students by integrating and utilizing technology.
  • Use a variety of methods to assess what students have learned and to help them work in teams and develop leadership qualities.
  • Work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students.
  • Adapt their teaching for the benefit of students with special needs.
  • Embrace fairness in the school community and in the world.
  • Demonstrate ethical principles including honesty, integrity, fair treatment, and respect for others.
  • Serve as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
