About The Position

This position supports the Victims Compensation Assistance Program by reviewing claims, preparing determinations, and working with staff to ensure fair and accurate evaluations. It plays a key role in supporting victims by analyzing information and assisting with the decision making process. As a Criminal Justice System Specialist 1, you will perform the following duties: Claim Evaluation: Review claims, write determinations, and assess documentation to support decisions. Case Summaries: Analyze complex claims and present summaries to the claims review team for consideration. Eligibility Decisions: Apply regulations and policies to determine claim eligibility and make recommendations. Hearing Support: Prepare information and testify at hearings when claimants contest determinations. Process Oversight: Monitor requests for investigative reports and maintain accurate tracking records. Customer Assistance: Provide guidance to claimants, support consultative sessions, and offer help during training or outreach events.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Criminal Justice System Specialist Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or One year of professional experience in criminal or juvenile justice, law enforcement, or victim services, and a bachelor’s degree in the social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation.
