This position will conduct investigations of alleged or suspected violations of the Administrative Rules by applicants and officers who are certified through Criminal Justice Training and Standards. This work is done on behalf of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education, Training and Standards Commission where cases are presented in consideration of possible sanctions. The position requires the accurate application of rules, laws and regulations governing the certification and the ongoing minimum standards of all criminal justice officer categories. The position works closely with certification staff to include the program administrators of the law enforcement, correctional, juvenile justice, and company/campus police programs. Investigations require gathering and reviewing of all relevant court records, police reports and applicable evidence; interviews of applicants, officers, and witnesses; and the preparation of reports documenting the investigative findings. Testimony is then provided when cases are presented to the appropriate commission committees in a formal setting. Subsequent appeals by applicants/officers may then require testimony during court proceedings overseen by the Office of Administrative Hearings and any appellate courts thereafter.
