About The Position

Washington County Community College (WCCC) invites applications for a full-time Criminal Justice Instructor position. The successful candidate will prepare students for careers in conservation law enforcement and support their successful transfer to colleges and universities offering bachelor’s degree programs in conservation law or related fields. This position includes teaching courses in Criminal Justice, Conservation Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Probation. The position requires a flexible schedule, including availability for both day and evening instruction. Faculty are also expected to cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with educational institutions and external stakeholders to support program growth and student success. This position begins in August 2026 and is part of the Maine Education Association Faculty bargaining unit. The academic year consists of two 16-week semesters for a total of 32 weeks, concluding in May. Faculty generally have 9 to 10 weeks off during the summer months. While the work schedule follows the academic calendar, salary and benefits are paid over a 52-week period, providing continuous compensation and benefits coverage throughout the year.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field is preferred, along with 5 to 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Candidates with an associate degree in criminal justice or a related field and 5 to 10 years of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • The successful candidate must complete a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field within three years of hire, with institutional support provided to help meet this requirement.
  • Applicants with an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and related professional experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses in Criminal Justice, Conservation Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Probation.
  • Teaching load consists of 15 credits per semester with four course preparations.
  • Curriculum development and revision.
  • Classroom and laboratory instruction.
  • Active collaboration with the Department Chair.
  • Ensuring effective course scheduling and delivery.
  • Compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, as well as Maine Community College System (MCCS) and WCCC policies and procedures.
  • Student academic advising.
  • Participation in student recruitment activities.
  • Program accreditation assessment and evaluation.
  • Professional development.
  • Maintaining contact with students outside the classroom.
  • Maintaining compliance with program standards.
  • Utilize Brightspace or other Learning Management Systems to support and enhance student learning.
  • Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with educational institutions and external stakeholders to support program growth and student success.
