About The Position

Washington County’s District Attorney’s Office is seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable professional to join its Records and Analytics Support (RAS) Team as a Criminal Justice Data Specialist (Legal Specialist I/II). The team processes reports submitted by more than a dozen police agencies in Washington County and builds cases for attorneys. This role supports criminal prosecution work, requires learning how criminal cases move through the justice system, and contributes to the office’s data-driven operational decision making and public reporting. Legal experience is not required for the Legal Specialist I role; candidates with qualifying legal experience may be eligible for Legal Specialist II. The position works in a supportive, team-oriented environment and regularly collaborates with trial team staff, deputy district attorneys, law enforcement agency partners, and court personnel. It requires managing high-volume workloads and concurrent tasks, adapting to shifting workflows, and responding quickly to time-sensitive issues. Work includes meticulous data entry, ongoing data tracking, and quality control in the District Attorney’s Office case management system to maintain data integrity. Staff are exposed to difficult criminal-case material, including reports involving violent crimes, child abuse, sex crimes, assault, and homicides, as well as crime scene photographs, body-worn camera footage, and 911 calls. This work may be emotionally challenging. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and qualifying administrative or clerical support experience. Legal Specialist II requires four years of administrative or clerical support experience, including either two years in a legal support role in a law office or an office focused on legal issues, or one year in a prosecutor’s office. Legal Specialist I requires three years of administrative or clerical support experience. A related bachelor’s or associate’s degree or a paralegal certificate may substitute for two years of experience. Both levels require passing a comprehensive background investigation.
