About The Position

The Office of Juvenile Justice is seeking a highly motivated Criminal Investigator 1 to support Investigative Services through thorough, well-documented, and timely investigations. This role is ideal for a professional who exercises sound judgment, communicates clearly, and is committed to maintaining safety, accountability, and compliance within a secure-care environment. In this position, you’ll supervise investigative staff, review allegations, and conduct investigations involving policy violations, criminal activity, and youth safety concerns. You’ll gather and evaluate evidence, review video footage, interview witnesses, prepare detailed investigative reports, and document findings in required systems. You’ll also collaborate with facility leadership, respond to inquiries from internal and external partners, and assist with policy interpretation and implementation. Additional responsibilities include maintaining case files, conducting internal audits, preparing monthly reports, and providing on-call support during major incidents or emergencies. Requirements

Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; OR Twelve hours in law enforcement or a criminal justice field.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.
Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for 2100-Protective Services Exam (PSE) in order to be considered for this vacancy unless exempted by Civil Service rule or policy.

Responsibilities

Supervises investigative staff and manages daily operations of the Investigative Services unit.
Conducts investigations into allegations, criminal violations, staff misconduct, youth abuse, and policy breaches.
Prepares investigative reports, documents findings in required systems, and reviews video or digital evidence.
Collects and manages evidence including photographing scenes, seizing items, and following proper chain-of-custody protocols.
Interviews witnesses and subjects including youth, staff, victims, and alleged perpetrators.
Interprets and applies policy by reviewing regulations, implementing updates, and assisting with procedural development.
Coordinates with internal and external partners including facility leadership, attorneys, auditors, law enforcement, and the District Attorney.
Maintains investigative files, manages case documentation, and conducts performance evaluations for assigned staff.
Provides on-call incident support during major occurrences such as escapes, emergencies, or unusual events.
Conducts audits and follow-ups, reviews Unusual Occurrence Reports, safeguards evidence, and assists with monthly reporting.
