About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Criminal Defense Discovery Review Attorney to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have experience in criminal defense and a strong understanding of discovery review, document analysis, and case preparation. This role involves reviewing and analyzing discovery materials, identifying key evidence, and collaborating with the defense team to develop case strategies and writing motions. The Discovery Review Attorney will be responsible for ensuring all relevant information is identified, organized, and accessible to support effective defense strategies.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree and active bar membership in the practicing jurisdiction.
  • Experience in criminal defense, particularly with discovery review or motion writing.
  • Strong understanding of criminal law and procedure, especially rules governing discovery in criminal cases.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Prior experience with motion practice, legal research, or appellate work.
  • Thorough understanding of court rules, evidentiary laws, and civil procedure.
  • Ability to handle high-volume caseloads and strict court deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in legal research tools and discovery review platforms (e.g., Relativity, Concordance) is a plus.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple cases simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze discovery materials, including police reports, witness statements, forensic evidence, and other relevant documents to identify key information.
  • Organize and categorize discovery materials to ensure ease of access and clarity for the legal team and client.
  • Work closely with senior attorneys to develop and refine defense strategies based on findings in the discovery process.
  • Identify additional investigative needs based on gaps or inconsistencies in discovery materials and coordinate with investigators as necessary.
  • Conduct legal research on issues pertinent to the case to provide insight and support defense strategies.
  • Create case summaries and reports that highlight important findings and evidence for the legal team.
  • The ability to effectively integrate legal analysis with clear, persuasive writing to advocate for a specific outcome.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and confidentiality requirements throughout the discovery process.
  • Superior drafting ability to produce clear, concise, and persuasive briefs.
