About The Position

The County District Attorney's Office is seeking a dedicated and experienced prosecutor to handle child abuse and child victim cases. This attorney will be responsible for prosecuting felony offenses involving child abuse, child sexual abuse, child exploitation, and other crimes against children. The successful candidate will work closely with law enforcement agencies, child advocacy centers, victim assistance personnel, and community partners to protect vulnerable victims and pursue justice. This position requires extensive interaction with victims and witnesses who have experienced trauma, abuse, and assault, as well as frequent exposure to sensitive and graphic evidence. The Crimes Against Children Prosecutor is expected to exercise professionalism, compassion, sound judgment, and trauma-informed practices while pursuing justice and ensuring community safety.

Requirements

  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Demonstrated experience prosecuting felony offenses is required.
  • Training or experience in trauma-informed interviewing and victim-centered prosecution practices.
  • Strong courtroom advocacy and trial skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with victims of child abuse.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism, composure, confidentiality, and sound decision-making in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with diverse populations is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in child abuse prosecutions preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prosecute complex child physical and sexual abuse, and related criminal cases from intake through trial and appeal.
  • Work closely with victims of traumatic crimes while maintaining a victim-centered and trauma-informed approach.
  • Conduct sensitive interviews with victims and witnesses who may be experiencing emotional distress, trauma, fear, or safety concerns.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary partners, including law enforcement agencies, victim assistance coordinators, medical personnel, forensic interviewers, advocacy organizations, and community partners.
  • Evaluate evidence, prepare legal documents, negotiate plea agreements, and conduct jury and bench trials.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable victims' rights laws, ethical obligations, office policies, and prosecutorial standards.
  • Provide training to investigators, agencies, and community groups on family violence investigation and prosecution.
