About The Position

Join Our Team as a Crime Scene & Evidence Technician Monday – Friday | 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Are you passionate about forensic science, committed to excellence, and ready to make a meaningful impact in your community? Join our team as a Crime Scene & Evidence Technician, where every piece of evidence you collect and every scene you process plays a vital role in the pursuit of justice. In this position, you'll perform advanced technical work involving the recognition, documentation, collection, preservation, processing, storage, and disposition of physical and digital evidence. From processing crime scenes and managing evidence to latent print development, forensic photography, digital evidence management, and courtroom testimony, you'll help ensure every investigation is supported by accurate, reliable, and professionally handled evidence. You'll work alongside patrol officers, detectives, prosecutors, medical examiners, forensic laboratories, and partner agencies while maintaining compliance with department policies, Florida Statutes, CJIS requirements, and recognized forensic best practices. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Ability to complete and maintain the Property and Evidence Certification within two years of hire date.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites
  • Knowledge of Various computer software/programs
  • Ability to Read and write
  • Ability to Operate office equipment
  • Ability to Maintain confidential records
  • Ability to Present information
  • Ability to Operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to Work independently & in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Respond to crime scenes and process physical evidence.
  • Photographs, documents, sketches, and measures crime scenes.
  • Collect biological, trace, firearms, impression, and DNA evidence.
  • Document/ process scenes using Leica laser scanning and forensic photography.
  • Conduct latent print processing at scenes and in the laboratory.
  • Prepare reports and testify in court.
  • Receive, package, barcode, and securely store evidence and property.
  • Maintain chain of custody.
  • Conduct evidence inventory and audits.
  • Prepare evidence for laboratory submission.
  • Return property and firearms in accordance with policy.
  • Coordinate evidence, destruction and disposition.
  • Maintain evidence storage facilities.
  • Manage digital evidence within AXON Evidence.com.
  • Review body-worn camera uploads for proper categorization.
  • Ensure digital evidence is associated with the correct case reports.
  • Process digital evidence requests.
  • Maintain digital custody chain.
  • Prepare and maintain forensic chemicals.
  • Process evidence for latent fingerprints using powder, cyanoacrylate fuming, and chemical methods.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and monitor the upkeep of forensic chemicals.
