The Crime Scene Specialist is responsible for processing crime scenes, identifying, collecting, and preserving physical evidence. This role involves crime scene photography and sketching, maintaining chain-of-custody for evidence, and ensuring proper handling and transport of evidence to laboratories. The specialist will also process evidence using laboratory techniques, test and evaluate trace evidence, and prepare reports. Additionally, they will process and examine latent prints, document investigative information, prepare detailed case reports, and enter data into department databases. The position requires participation in court activities, including preparing cases for prosecution and testifying. Continuous learning through shift meetings, training sessions, and seminars is expected to stay current with departmental operations, policies, and investigation techniques. The role involves operating and maintaining various equipment including vehicles, cameras, and forensic tools.
