About The Position

A Crime Laboratory Assistant documents, monitors and coordinates forensic evidence processes. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical forensic superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office, laboratory, or crime scene. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Three years’ experience in office work, including one year experience creating databases or spreadsheets.
  • A bachelor’s degree in criminalistics, forensics, chemistry, biology, physics or a related science from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Knowledge of office management practices and procedures.
  • Ability to develop databases and spreadsheet reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the State’s Attorney’s Office, Police Department Officials and defense attorneys.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution.
