The Crime Scene Investigator is responsible for the professional collection, preservation, and analysis of physical evidence, including the documentation of crime scenes through photography and sketching, the identification of latent prints, the collection of evidentiary materials, and the management of the chain of custody for all seized property. This role requires timely response to crime scenes, collisions, and fires to determine the best methods for evidence preservation and recovery. The investigator will perform various documentation techniques, search for and recover evidence, respond to autopsies, and conduct latent print recovery both in the field and in a laboratory setting. They will operate specialized crime scene equipment, prepare detailed reports, manage evidence as the custodian, and testify in court. The position also involves operating computers and relevant software, and performing other assigned duties.
