Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing crime and intelligence analysis work for the purpose of reporting and presenting crime information, statistical trends, and criminal intelligence in support of the Austin Police Department. The Crime Intelligence Analyst will provide tactical analytical support to the Austin Police Department’s Data and Analytics Division and specifically the tactical patrol analysis team. This team supports patrol operations by interpreting and analyzing crime trends and identifying emerging patterns in order to guide decision making leading up to a response. Using qualitative and quantitative information, the Crime Intelligence Analyst provides timely, actionable intelligence to patrol officers and command staff so that they can make informed decisions in the field and strategically deploy resources. Under general supervision, the successful candidate will perform professional level work involving the analysis of a variety of tactical and strategic reports. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of a variety of datasets, and a proven ability to conduct relevant statistical analyses. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to prioritize, while effectively managing competing demands and deadlines. The top candidate must also have excellent business writing skills, proofreading, and communication skills. Strong candidates will have a knowledge of law enforcement operations and criminal behavior.
