About The Position

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle is seeking a dynamic journalist for its Cheyenne newsroom. This role focuses on breaking news, crime/public safety coverage, and education reporting. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle is a long-standing media organization with over 150 years of history, known for its comprehensive coverage of southeast Wyoming, including government, crime, courts, healthcare, education, entertainment, and sports. The publication has received numerous awards, including first place in General Excellence from the National Newspaper Association Foundation four of the last five years, most recently in 2025. The WTE is dedicated to delivering news to subscribers through various platforms such as their mobile app, website, social media, and print, catering to their lifestyle needs.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines for breaking news and routine coverage.
  • Clear, concise writing that avoids jargon.
  • Willingness to collaborate with newsroom team members.
  • Solid foundation in news writing.
  • Proficiency in AP style.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the BLOX content management system.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn reporting and editing for a weekly podcast.
  • Photography skills or willingness to learn.
  • Data analysis using spreadsheets and databases.

Responsibilities

  • Breaking news coverage, providing immediate online updates and subsequent in-depth context.
  • Collaborating with reporters and photographers to produce unique and comprehensive stories.
  • Working within a dynamic newsroom team, learning from and supporting fellow journalists.
  • Covering crime and public safety.
  • Reporting on education, including school board meetings.
