About The Position

The St. Cloud Times is seeking a politics/watchdog/crime reporter with a passion for discovering stories and finding answers. This role requires a candidate with a bachelor’s degree and strong reporting skills. The reporter must be proficient in photography and videography, comfortable engaging with people, developing sources, and learning their beat. The position focuses on reporting stories that impact community members and serving as a watchdog. The ideal candidate will have a keen sense for issues, be adept at interviewing politicians and residents, and be able to explain complex local political issues in clear, accessible language. Digital journalism and data-driven reporting are priorities, as is the ability to interview a diverse range of individuals. Consistently breaking exclusive news is crucial, involving the identification, production, and timely posting of stories, photos, and videos. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1-4 years of daily newsroom experience.
  • High-level writing, communication, and time management skills.
  • Facility with AI and automation and experience in using it to enhance journalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well on deadline.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to take both pictures and short videos.
  • Not be afraid to meet people, find sources, and learn their beat.
  • Ability to report stories that affect the lives of people.
  • Nose for issues.
  • Ability to interview both politicians and residents alike.
  • Ability to explain local political issues to readers with easy-to-understand language.
  • Comfortable interviewing a diverse group of people.

Responsibilities

  • Research, report and produce compelling content that continuously grows a following by informing and engaging readers.
  • Provide thoughtful analysis of complex issues.
  • Produce watchdog journalism that leads to change.
  • Use real-time metrics to respond to user demand and reader interest.
  • Work with newsroom leaders to shape storytelling to meet audience needs and interests tailored to appropriate platforms.
  • Contribute to the community’s greater good through impactful journalism.
  • Use video to spotlight breaking news and high-interest events.
  • Identify, produce and post stories, photos, and videos quickly and accurately.
