About The Position

The Crime Analyst collects, collates, analyzes, and disseminates timely, accurate, and relevant information on crime patterns, trends, and suspect data to assist operational and administrative personnel in planning the deployment of resources to prevent and suppress criminal activity. This role assists in data review, quality control, investigations, and administrative functions relative to Crime Analysis to support units of the police department. The work involves extensive reading, data analysis, and development of reports and charts. Responsibilities include tactical, strategic, and administrative analysis in support of the Police Department. The analyst uses independent judgment within established guidelines, needing assistance only for unusual non-routine situations. The role requires the use of integrated relational computer systems to create and access database files and prepare statistical charts, graphs, reports, and exhibits using Crystal Reports and other applicable software. The analyst will review a variety of information, including crime reports, calls for service, arrests, field interviews, and other data generated throughout the department to identify patterns and trends in criminal activity and deliver relevant information to officers, detectives, administrators, and other authorized personnel. The position provides accurate, timely, and relevant analysis of crime patterns and trends that aid in the efficient deployment of department resources, increase apprehension of offenders, and assist in the clearance of criminal cases. The analyst will assist investigative divisions and patrol with research, analysis, intelligence, and investigations using a variety of databases, software applications, analytical tools, and other available resources. Preparation of a variety of analytical products, including crime information, statistical reports, spreadsheets, charts, graphs, patrol bulletins, crime trend bulletins, and other reports as needed is required. The role responds to ad hoc requests for data, statistical information, and reports, including public information requests, from all levels and units of the Police Department, City administration, and other authorized agencies as required. The analyst will analyze complex law enforcement data and identify, interpret, and evaluate current and anticipated criminal activity, crime patterns, and trends using modern crime analysis tools, techniques, and available resources. Findings will be provided in a format that allows them to be effectively used by all appropriate personnel and divisions of the Police Department to support operational and investigative decisions. Assistance in the administration of various Police Department software packages, including database maintenance, user management, system updates, and user support as needed is also part of the role. Familiarity with ArcGIS and Crystal Reports and the ability to navigate and utilize the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System (RMS) for research, reporting, and analysis is necessary. The analyst will prepare and present crime statistics, crime trend analyses, charts, graphs, and statistical presentations to command staff and other department personnel as needed. Maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of crime data, statistical information, and departmental records in accordance with department policies and applicable laws is crucial. Must have and maintain, without interruption, required certifications and licenses. Works assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policies. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Two (2) years applicable work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation
  • Must have and maintain, without interruption, required certifications and licenses
  • Works assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policies
