About The Position

The Crewperson 4 reports directly to the Supervisor and provides leadership within the Mechanical Systems filter team. This role requires expert-level knowledge and advanced hands-on experience in HVAC filter systems. The Crewperson 4 not only performs independent work of the highest quality but also mentors Crewperson 3 team members and provides guidance on field procedures, troubleshooting, and safety. This role assumes an expanded responsibility in planning, coordinating, and ensuring completion of filter PMs. Employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave. Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator. All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position. Assists with additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Expert-level knowledge and advanced hands-on experience in HVAC filter systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use various equipment assigned to the job position as needed.
  • Use hand tools of trade and related power equipment.
  • Ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine.
  • Comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.
  • Travel between schools and central offices is required.
  • Capable of leading high-angle and confined-space work under OSHA-compliant safety standards.
  • Ability to work extended or emergency hours during HVAC outages or seasonal transitions.
  • Serve as the on-call point-of-contact for HVAC filter system alerts or emergencies.
  • Interpret technical schematics, engineering drawings, and specification manuals to guide repair strategy.
  • Exposure to chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc.
  • Frequent lifting 20 to 50 pounds; occasional lifting of 50-100 pounds; lifting over 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Work in high places on ladders and/or personal lifts.
  • Work in standard office and school building environments.
  • Work in wet and dusty conditions.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proven track record in safety compliance, preventive maintenance strategy, and HVAC operation.
  • Proficiency in work order management software (e.g., Tririga).
  • Ability to prepare reports and provide input for performance reviews of subordinate crew members.
  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in HVAC filter systems.
  • Valid Kansas driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide functional supervision to Crewperson 3 employees and seasonal support staff.
  • Train and onboard new crew members on safety protocols, equipment use, and HVAC procedures.
  • Act as crew lead in the absence of the supervisor or filter crew leader.
  • Coordinate with Facilities staff to help them assess HVAC system performance and recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate and document tool and asset inventory for the filter maintenance team.
  • Assist with planning and scheduling for large-scale seasonal HVAC filter changes.
  • Collaborate with district engineers and contractors on mechanical upgrades and retrofits with regards to filter access.
  • Evaluate materials and make procurement recommendations for filter media, cleaning agents, and replacement parts.
  • Perform independent work of the highest quality.
  • Mentor Crewperson 3 team members and provide guidance on field procedures, troubleshooting, and safety.
  • Assume expanded responsibility in planning, coordinating, and ensuring completion of filter PMs.
