About The Position

The City of Greensboro Water Resources Department is seeking a knowledgeable, dependable, and safety-focused Crew Supervisor (Water Maintenance) to lead and support field crews responsible for maintaining the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This position combines hands-on technical knowledge, sound judgment, and team leadership to help ensure critical infrastructure is maintained safely, efficiently, and reliably. Water Maintenance crews perform the hands-on work necessary to maintain, repair, rehabilitate, and improve the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's license
  • High School Diploma /GED
  • 1+ years of experience working in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection systems.
  • Grade B NC WTFO Distribution System, or Grade 2 NC AWWA Collection System

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support crews performing maintenance, repair, renewal, replacement, and rehabilitation of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Apply a strong working knowledge of the City's Collection and Distribution systems to plan and complete assigned work.
  • Oversee and perform work involving water and sewer taps, renewals, replacements, and rehabilitation of infrastructure.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable safety standards, City policies, and established procedures.
  • Apply knowledge of confined-space entry, trenching and shoring, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards within the scope of assigned duties.
  • Make routine operational and field decisions without direct supervision while recognizing when issues require additional guidance.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, fellow employees, and crew members regarding work assignments, conditions, and operational needs.
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure employees understand and follow applicable safety requirements.
  • Help coordinate daily field activities and respond to changing work conditions and priorities.
  • Work effectively in outdoor and field environments while supporting the reliable operation of essential water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Serve as service-critical personnel and report to work during inclement weather conditions as required.
