Requirements

  • Educational background equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license.
  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain VDOT-approved Basic Work Zone Traffic Control certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Must complete and maintain OSHA-required training and certifications applicable to the position, including all assigned training within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience and/or training involving manual labor or successful progression from Crew Member I; or equivalent education, and/or experience.
  • Must meet and maintain all minimum qualifications, licenses, certifications, and training requirements established for the preceding position within the Crew Member career ladder.
  • Must possess a VDOT-approved Basic Work Zone Traffic Control certification.
  • Must complete and maintain OSHA-required training and certifications applicable to the position, including all assigned training within thirty (30) days in position.
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the repair and maintenance of concrete structures, including sidewalks and curbs.
  • Prepare and manage sites for effective concrete pouring and finishing.
  • Participate in grading and leveling tasks to ensure smooth, even surfaces.
  • Collaborate with tree crews to remove brush.
  • Support planting efforts to enhance green spaces with new vegetation.
  • Assist in trimming and maintaining trees to promote healthy growth and improve aesthetics, ensuring clear and safe environments.
  • Contribute to the preparation and cleanup of worksites, ensuring they are ready for construction and landscaping activities.
  • Maintain site tidiness and safety standards post-project.
  • Repair sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.
  • Assist with repairs to roads, service cuts, utility services, curbs, gutters, and pothole repair.
  • Perform tree trimming, pruning, removal, and planting, while operating equipment such as chain saws, pole saws, pruners, chippers, and stump grinders.
  • Manage tasks like roping down limbs, lifting, and stacking wood and mulch.
  • Drive a dump truck to transport equipment to job sites and the landfill.
