About The Position

To perform a wide variety of landscape maintenance functions related to but not limited to mowing, trimming, irrigation, edging, pruning, landscape installation, and snow removal. This role involves working in various landscaping settings, communicating with lead personnel, and learning various aspects of installation and planting skills. The position requires the ability to identify plants, weeds, pests, and understand basic irrigation repairs. Operating landscape maintenance equipment and adhering to safety protocols are crucial. The role also includes bed care, landscape installation, fertilization, and snow removal in applicable markets.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age and meet all applicable state-mandated labor laws.
1-year experience in the landscape industry preferred.
Ability to comprehend instructions.
Ability to use assigned tools and equipment in a proper/safe manner.
Become proficient in the use of basic maintenance hand tools: leaf rake, broom, hoe, shovel, cultivator, water hose, quick coupler key, hand pruners, hedge shears, and refuse tote.
Become proficient in the use of basic power equipment used for landscape maintenance: hedge trimmers, line trimmers, 21" lawn mower, and leaf blower.
Learn and perform basic planting skills.
Assist in keeping the job site tidy/safe.
Become proficient in loading and unloading of truck and trailer used in landscape maintenance operations.
Perform regular safety inspections on vehicle and trailer.
Adhere to company policies, standards, and safety guidelines.
Work with other employees as a team.
Meet or exceed company production rates and standards set forth.
Ability to communicate with lead people regarding progress of tasks.
Regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, squatting, and walking for extended periods.
Able to reach over head with hands and arms; climb or balance.
Able to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment.
Able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned job tasks.
Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually high and requires ear protection while operating equipment.

Responsibilities

Perform a wide variety of landscape maintenance functions including mowing, trimming, irrigation, edging, pruning, landscape installation, and snow removal.
Communicate with lead people regarding the progress of tasks.
Learn aspects of installation work and assist where needed or assigned.
Learn and perform basic planting skills.
Prune trees, shrubs, and vines to encourage healthy growth.
Identify by common names 25 frequently used plants that appear on the CLT plant list.
Identify, by common name, 5 frequently seen weeds in planting beds.
Recognize plant material in stress or in a problem state.
Identify by common name 5 frequently seen garden pests.
Differentiate weed grasses from desirable turf grasses in lawn areas.
Understand and complete basic irrigation repairs such as sprinkler head replacement, arc and radius adjustment, and lateral line repairs.
Operate landscape maintenance and construction hand tools and light equipment.
Report equipment in need of repair and identify broken, poorly running, and misused equipment.
Understand and practice safety in all work circumstances and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
Maintain a neat and clean appearance and conduct yourself in a professional manner.
Wear Mainscape uniforms while at work.
Operate push mowers, walk behind mowers, zero turn riding mowers, string trimmers, blowers, and edgers.
Perform trash/debris pickup and proper set up/dispersal of crew members on job site.
Use ladders, gas-powered hedge trimmers, loppers/hand pruners, and chain saws.
Recognize plants that need special pruning needs/times.
Properly apply pre-emergent, selective, and non-selective herbicides.
Identify desirable plants from weeds in a specific area, pull and spray weeds, and mix chemicals.
Safely lift/move heavy items and install plants properly.
Apply granular fertilizers after proper training under supervision.
Identify plant varieties and cultivars.
Perform annual flower installation, watering, and fertilization.
Check plants for insects/diseases.
Perform loading and fill procedures for landscape installation.
Use and calibrate the Z-cart for fertilization.
Apply herbicides, fungicide, and insecticide.
Replace irrigation heads/nozzles, dig and clear drain/irrigation trenches.
Work with solvents and glues, track wires, and perform problem-solving related to irrigation.
Use cleaning supplies and solvents safely.
Safely use snow removal equipment and practice safe driving techniques in snow and ice conditions.
Shovel snow, lifting up to 25 pounds.
