About The Position

The Crew Leader, Custodian will perform daily cleaning, minor maintenance, yard duties, and assigned tasks in order to provide a safe and healthy learning environment in all school district facilities. This position is for the evening shift.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in large scale housekeeping and yard maintenance knowledge, with one (1) year of related management or supervisory experience required.
  • Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.
  • Writes routine reports and correspondence.
  • Speaks effectively before groups of individuals.
  • Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Computes rate, ratio, and percent and draws and interprets bar graphs.
  • Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions.
  • Deals with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Use Internal HCPS email system and HCPS district webpage as appropriate.
  • Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, handling, keyboarding, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, depth perception, color vision, tasting/smelling, near acuity, far acuity, and field of vision.
  • Lifting up to 55 pounds.
  • Reaching with both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
  • Work with cleaning chemicals – wear eye protection.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned clerical staff and subordinate professional personnel in one or more sections of the department.
  • Take responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned teams.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes and burnish floors, as well as vacuum and shampoo carpets as applicable; cleans, sanitizes, and stocks restrooms; cleans and dusts all horizontal and vertical surfaces as assigned; removes and dispose of waste products daily; maintains clean custodial closets.
  • Performs minor non-cleaning maintenance tasks of facility (i.e. changes light bulbs, changes toilet seats, unclogs toilets, changes ceiling tiles, touches up paint, secures window(s), delivers supplies, sets up for facility activities, meetings, and/or conferences, assembles and moves furniture, etc.).
  • Follows a lawn and facility maintenance program to include, but not limited to: mowing (pushing and/or riding), weeding, weed-eating, edging, trimming, fertilizing, minor plant replacement, mulching, blowing off sidewalks/curbs, watering, pressure washing, and graffiti removal, as appropriate.
  • Opens or closes and secures facility; to include: gates, doors, windows, and alarm systems. Turn on and off all lights making sure that grounds and facility are free of debris and hazards. Responds to emergencies by securing the perimeter.
  • Performs work duties independently and/or as part of a custodial crew depending upon the nature of the task, work cooperatively in group situations, exhibit tact and consideration, displays positive outlook and pleasant manner, offer assistance and support to co-workers, works actively to resolve conflicts.
  • Supervises assigned personnel, monitors staff performance, and makes immediate improvements.
  • Prepares all required reports.
  • Performs basic computer skills.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities of the head custodian in the event of absence, vacancy, or as directed.
  • Possess basic comprehensive skills of the working English language.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
  • Schedules time off in advance.
  • Begins working on time.
