About The Position

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor. The Crew Leader I works under general direction to supervise a group of unskilled and semi-skilled employees and assists in the completion of semi-skilled work activities at Roads and Bridges. The pay grade is 43, with salary commensurate with experience and education.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of construction experience; of which two (2) years must be in a supervisory or lead capacity.
  • Tenth (10) grade education.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  • Must pass physical examination.
  • Must submit to and pass drug and alcohol screening.
  • Must be in good physical condition: stooping, bending, lifting, and able to work in inclement weather is required.
  • Knowledge of Shelby County’s Road system.
  • Knowledge of activities and project carried out by Shelby County Litter Program.
  • Knowledge of equipment limitations and necessary preventive maintenance actions.
  • Ability to lead and work with teams.
  • Ability to deal with the public using courtesy and tact; ability to maintain communications written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of safe operating procedures.
  • Ability to identify when safe operating procedures require improvements or corrective actions pertaining to personnel and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules daily roadside litter removal, solid waste collection and disposal for areas within Shelby County.
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of a work crew or inmate work lines.
  • Performs inspections of the work assigned to unskilled or semi-skilled employees.
  • Participates as required in the clean-up of illegal dump sites.
  • Prepares and submits daily work activity reports.
  • Operates trucks and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Participates in various recycling events and needed functions.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
