Crew Leader - Grounds and Greenspace

About The Position

Leads division staff and participates in completing routine and specialized park, grounds and right-of-way landscape installations, repairs, maintenance, trash pick-up, and other tasks as assigned to the division. Leads division crew members in and performs landscape maintenance using proper methods, procedures, and techniques, as directed by division supervisor. Utilizes and leads division staff in the safe operation of landscape maintenance-related equipment such as pruning tools, mowers, trimers, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, pole saws, trailers, tractors, mini-excavators, bucket trucks, and other vehicles and equipment. Performs routine checks of city irrigation systems, adjusts timing mechanisms, and assists in winterizing and spring start-up system maintenance, and basic irrigation repairs at direction of division supervisor. Applies pesticides and other chemicals, as directed and in accordance with mandated health and safety and applicable regulations. Trim, prune and remove trees, as directed by division supervisor, on city grounds and in city greenspaces, including rights-of-way. Responds to public requests, issues, and complaints in a courteous, prompt manner, and reports promptly on such interactions to supervisor and division manager. Performs and leads division crew to perform all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of safety and quality. Interacts with residents if an issue has been escalated or there are special circumstances. Coordinates with other Divisions to correctly staff crews on any given day. Surveys the city to identify and address repairs that may be needed. Completes weekly reports to supervisor of what items were accomplished during the week. Performs all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of safety and quality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least 3 years of experience
  • Valid GA Driver’s License or ability to obtain one
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment
  • Ability to build relationships with employees, leaders, and the general public
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with supervisors, employees, and the general public
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public
  • Ability to follow proper safety precautions
  • Ability to navigate different routes throughout the city
  • Ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment under varying conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience is preferred
